Adopted 2012 City of Tukwila Strategic Plan

The Strategic Plan was adopted by City Council at the December 10, 2012 Council meeting, and can be found in its entirety below.

Historical Overview

The City of Tukwila has developed its first-ever Strategic Plan. This was an opportunity for all to take part in building a collective vision for the future of the community and to plan the work needed to accomplish that vision.

The final Strategic Plan will shape what it is like to live in Tukwila, work in or own a business here, or visit our community. The Plan will guide the priorities and actions of the City and its partners for years to come.

The Strategic Planning Process examined:

Where are we now?

  • Who makes up our community and how is our population changing?
  • What are our major businesses and our role in the regional economy?
  • What are our greatest strengths and challenges?

Where do we want to go?

  • What is our vision for the future of Tukwila?
  • What do we want our community to be like in the future?

How do we get there?

  • What actions and investments are necessary to make our vision a reality?
  • What timeline is feasible for accomplishing our goals and priorities?
  • How can we best serve the needs of our diverse community, including residents, businesses, and visitors?

The Planning Process

Beginning in May 2012, a Steering Committee was formed to explore the current state of Tukwila, draw input from members of the community, and develop a recommended Strategic Plan for consideration by the City Council.

City staff contributed by identifying issues and potential strategies through participation on a Staff Committee and targeted efforts to engage all staff.
