Buy Recycled

If we don't "buy recycled," then collecting materials for recycling is nothing more than an elaborate garbage collection system.

Look for "post-consumer content"

Post-consumer materials have been previously used by consumers and recycled through residential and business recycling programs like yours.

Pre-consumer materials are industrial scraps that are incorporated back into the manufacturing process by the industry that produced the waste.

Where to buy recycled-content products?

The City of Tukwila offers an Environmentally Preferable Purchasing Guide for businesses. This pamphlet lists local vendors that sell environmentally friendly products.

Prevent Waste

Recycling is Good: Waste Prevention is Better

Recycling saves resources, but preventing waste is even better. Waste prevention is any activity that reduces, avoids, or eliminates waste at its source. Waste prevention saves us the hassle and costs associated with controlling, treating and managing products after we are done with them.
